Carolyn grew up in Dayton, Ohio, where she played in the high school band and orchestra, was a drum majorette and summertime lifeguard.   She graduated from Ohio University Cum Laude with a BA degree in Journalism, from the University of Maryland Suma Cum Laude with a MA degree in Counseling, and completed two years' postgraduate psychology doctoral course work on a fellowship at the University of Maryland.

Before going into private practice, Carolyn acquired a wide variety of experience.   She was the first woman managing editor of the Ohio University Post daily newspaper.   She's been a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, print journalist in Dayton and Los Angeles, social worker and counseling psychologist for rehabilitation facilities and social service agencies in Ohio, Texas, California, Tennessee, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware.
